This is our baby girl Sunny Lou! Born via emergency C-section at 41 wks + 4 days on February 8, 2023.

She had petechiae and bruising on her shoulders when she was born. At first the doctors chalked it up to trauma from birth (she was sunny side up and stuck in mama’s pelvis), but on February 9th angel nurse Irene knew exactly what was going on, NAIT. She called Sunny’s doctor at his house, and told him he needed to research NAIT right away and get Sunny to the NICU.

After that they came in and wheeled her away, down to the NICU.. we were still so tired from birth and didn’t even know what platelets were, we didn’t realize how serious it was and thought she would just be back soon. Sunny’s platelets were at 7k. Thankfully she did not have any bleeds. After several rounds of IVIG, 3 platelet transfusions, and 7 days in the NICU, Sunny was released the day after Valentine’s day and it now a healthy beautiful 1 year old! We are so grateful for our sweet girl, and for angel nurse Irene!
