Our NAIT Story
2016 was one of our most wonderful year, because our first child, our daughter Gerda was born in June. There wasn’t any problem during the pregnancy. She was born per vias naturales, with vacuum extraction. After a few hours some petechia appeared on her legs. I didn’t worry about this, I thought that there wasn’t a big problem. But her laboratory showed a severe thromboytopenia, her platelet count was 17.000. She was moved to Subintensive class of the nearest clinic, and she was without a mother for a few days. These were very terrible days. On the fifth day was found that it has been NAIT. Fortunately, she hasn’t got any complications. After one dose of IVIG, on the seventh day her platelet count was normalized.
We were happy, but we were worried about the further pregnancies, because I would have liked a big family with 3-4 children. After the problem was known, we found a doctor of NAIT, but unfortunately in Hungary there aren’t any protocol process for NAIT. So we didn’t plan another baby that time. But our second child, our miracle David was on way.
Pregnancy a bit surprised us. The time was going, we had to do something. Then I covered the NAITbabies group, and it was a very-very big help for us. Thea helped me to find a German laboratory, where my blood was examined (sent it by post) and the week 16 of the pregnancy it was found that the NAIT had also affected this pregnancy. We had no time for worry, so we found a clinic in the capital, where a few week later the IVIG treatment was allowed. I got this drug once a week, it was a very tough time. Our daughter was three that time and she just started the kindergarten, but I couldn’t be there with her due to the treatment and the planned delivery.
On a beautiful autumn day in 2019, after an elective C-section, and after 8 months of worry my son David was born, and our family became successful and complete. His platelet count was 217.000, he was absolute healthy. I can’t thank for the group enough for their support. I am thankful that we fought NAIT and I encourage everyone not to be afraid. There is a grateful supporting group, we all fighting with NAIT, and finally we won.
