Two families whose children had FNAIT, took part in the Kiltwalk fundraising event held in Glasgow, on the 29 April.
Sian Urquhart from Dumbarton and mum to 2 NAIT babies. Ewan 7, born in 2010 with a count of 4k – untreated as FNAIT was unknown during her pregnancy as there is still no prenatal screening. Ewan had 4 platelet transfusions after suffering 2 intra-cranial hemorrhages but he’s developing well with no ongoing issues. Callum – born in 2014 – treated with count of 30k at birth and no ICH’s. He received 1 platelet transfusion and IVIG before his platelets stabilised at the normal level. We are pleased to hear that both are developing well!!!
Pauline Graham, from Glasgow raised a grand total of £635. Her son Jamie was also a NAIT baby. He had no platelets at all registered when his platelet count was tested at birth and 5 platelet transfusions had little effect … then all of a sudden he came alive
He is 25 now and swimming for his country at the Commonwealth Games on the Gold Coast, Australia April 2018.
