April 2019.
Siobhan Moran-Walker, together with husband Scott, brother in law Dean and niece Amena undertook an epic personal challenge, while raising funds for NAIT babies!!!
Climbing to Mount Everest base camp at the foot of the greatest mountain in the world, Mount Everest (8848m)!!!!!
Siobhan with neice Amena
Siobhan and her family chose Naitbabies to support because neonatal alloimmune thrombocytopenia is something which affected their nephew at birth and so is ”very close to our hearts”. Otto 12 lives with epilepsy and cerebral palsy caused by bleeding into his brain before he was born and the life changing impact caused by this condition.
An extract from Siobhan’s trek diary
”Day 8 update – Altitude at EBC 5365m, highest altitude around 5410m. Just returned from our Everest Base Camp expedition. It’s been extremely hard and we’ve all emptied our tanks and more 😫. It’s been around the
-6/7° all day and after summiting at EBC which has been the main goal of our trip the temperature dropped as the wind picked up and the snow started to fall. The trail itself has been treacherous with us climbing over large boulders with severe drops at each side along with a rockfall which happened on our way to the camp. I have to say, I knew it would be hard but never dreamt it would be this physical and exhausting, it’s now time for our first beer of the trek which I believe is well deserved!!!”
